Who Needs a Golden Statue? Metallics Were the Biggest Winners of the Oscars After-Party

While the upper echelons of the film industry spent yesterday evening lusting after golden statues, there was a much more inclusive wave of gold (and silver) to behold at the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party. On the red carpet, celebrities turned out in their many takes on metallics, from chainmail to paillettes.

Some, like Margot Robbie, Minnie Driver, and Amelia Gray stayed on-theme in gold. Robbie wore a vintage Mugler mini from spring 1996, while Driver donned a sequined Emilia Wickstead number, and Gray wore a form-fitting Balenciaga couture chainmail dress.

Others chose to divert from any statuette comparisons. Salma Hayek wore a one-shouldered Gucci that resembled liquid mercury. Ncuti Gatwa opted for a gleaming silver chest plate, and Lindsay Lohan wore a fringed Balenciaga.

Florals even proved that they could work with the metallic trend. Kylie Jenner’s red chainmail Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress featured a Robert Mapplethorpe flower motif, while Jessica Alba’s Tamara Ralph featured floral appliqués across the neckline.

Mixed metals were even on the table. Sandra Oh’s Naeem Khan not only mixed silver and gold, but chainmail and paillettes. Eva Longoria’s rose gold dress featured silver embellishments, and Daphne Guinness opted for silver and gold stripes.
