Michael Kors and Suki Waterhouse Toast to Spring and the Brand’s Arrival on Amazon
For jet-setting Michael Kors, the fun never stops. “I’m the Energizer Bunny, what can I say,” the designer laughed as he welcomed friends, editors, and tastemakers to Avra at Aman New York on Wednesday evening for his latest celebration. Hot on the heels of his Fashion Week fete, Kors was clinking glasses this time around due to his brand making its official debut on Amazon earlier that day. And who better to co-host the gathering than his newly-minted spring summer 2025 campaign star and muse, Suki Waterhouse?
Speaking of firsts, Waterhouse and Kors traveled to Ibiza late last year to shoot the brand’s sun-soaked new season imagery. For his inaugural time orchestrating a campaign on the Balearic island, Kors said he couldn’t think of anyone he’d rather bring along for the ride than the English singer-songwriter and actress.
“Ibiza has got many layers—just like Suki has many layers,” he told Vogue. “We’re talking about an island that has everything from wellness to partying and everything from heritage to modernity. It’s international. The nature is gorgeous. We’re finding it really interesting to take our followers and our customers to a destination and let them immerse themselves.”
Waterhouse, who’s known Kors for over a decade, was tickled pink to get the nod. The Daisy Jones The Six star said she’d heard a few whispers that she might work with the brand in a bigger way when she attended the show in New York last September. Thankfully, the rumors were true and she was in the Spanish haven posing up a storm by November.
“That island can never get rid of me for too long,” the new mom mused. “But going to Ibiza in the off-season is actually heaven. We shot at all the little beach cafés that are usually filled with people, and it was really romantic and special to be there when it was quiet. I want to do that more.”
For music lovers like Kors and Waterhouse, Ibiza was a perfect backdrop. But there wasn’t a whole lot of time to dabble in the late-night hedonism the island is famed for. Alas, as Kors put it, “Did we stay out dancing all night? No, we had early call times. But when you’re with someone who brings it all to life, and you’re in a beautiful place, that’s fun.” (Waterhouse added that photographer Mert Alas was also providing the crew with “non-stop ‘80s and ‘90s bangers” to keep the good times rolling on set.)
Back in Manhattan, a Euro summer-adjacent buzz was in full swing on the rooftop of the Aman. Attendees arrived at the swanky five-star Fifth Avenue hotel sporting studded Laila satchels, which shoppers can now purchase directly from Amazon in a few simple clicks. Taking their seats at candle-lit tables adorned with white flowers in long-stem vases, guests broke bread over a leisurely family-style dinner brimming with Avra’s fine Italian dining favorites. Think: burrata Pugliese, Cacio e Pepe cavatelli, Wagyu tenderloin, branzino, Snowdance chicken, and a fluffy tiramisu that warranted staying out ’til after 10 p.m.
With the taste of good weather in the air, summer was on the brain for everyone as they compared destination tips. Waterhouse will soon be heading to Australia, followed by a run of festivals and some one-off shows in Europe. Kors, meanwhile, has visits to Africa, Scandinavia, and Greece on the horizon in the very near future. “When I say jet-set, I mean it. I’ll make sure to get some dancing in, too,” he said with a smile.
