Michael Kors and Anna Wintour Honor Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Iman, and John Demsey at the Golden Heart Awards

Celebrities, New Yorkers, and philanthropists gathered Monday evening to celebrate the 13th annual God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards in New York City.
The evening, hosted at the newly opened Cipriani South Street, honored fashion model and philanthropist Iman, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Estee Lauder’s John Demsey for their outstanding service to the community.
“New York,” stated Iman when asked what she believes God’s Love We Deliver stands for. “I have traveled all over the world, and one of the most unique things about New York is we really know our neighbors. This is an organization that can truly only inhabit and thrive in New York City.”
Initially founded in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, God’s Love We Deliver is a New York–based charity that supports home-bound patients with life-threatening illnesses. With over 15,000 volunteers delivering 1.9 million meals annually, the organization is a point of pride for New York City community service.
“The reality is all over New York, and all over the world, there are unfortunately people, neighbors, who are in need of nutritious meals and interaction with others. God’s Love We Deliver has been there since the ’80s, on the front lines, personalized and here for each and every one of them,” said Michael Kors.
“[This organization] started dealing with people who were sick with HIV/AIDS, and now it caters to people across many different illnesses and specific needs. Tonight is my way of saying thank you to the volunteers, to the caregivers, to the caretakers, and thank you to New York…. It is the greatest feeling in the world to be able to give back,” the designer continued.
Following the red carpet and an Italian-inspired cocktail hour curated by Eataly, guests were seated for dinner and the awards ceremony—but not before a warm welcome by the ever-hilarious Tiffany Haddish.
Pete Buttigieg was honored with the Golden Heart Award for Outstanding Leadership and Public Service, John Demsey for Outstanding Volunteerism and Community Leadership, and Iman, stunning in a metallic leopard-print suit by Michael Kors, received the Michael Kors Award for Outstanding Community Service presented by none other than Kors himself.
“The diversity of the honorees tonight really speaks to what this organization stands for,” said Kors. “This is such an inclusive organization, both the volunteers and the clients, and tonight we look at three honorees who are three very different people, but have each done something incredible for the community.”
In addition to the annual awards, the evening played host to a live auction with items such as a private dinner prepared by the Executive Chef of Gramercy Tavern, Michael Anthony, and a private getaway to the Amanyara Resort in Turks and Caicos.
The event’s honorary chairwoman Anna Wintour was accompanied by co-chairs Michael Kors, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Jordan Roth, and Blaine Trump.
Also in attendance were the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, with her mother as her date, Audra McDonald, Marisa Tomei, Winnie Harlow, Cleo Wade, Selby Drummond, Ariana Rockefeller, and Karen Elson.
Soon enough, the evening would come to an end, and guests, heart-warmed by the inspiring evening, stepped out into the chilly night. Each left with a gift bag that, in addition to M.A.C. cosmetics, contained GLWD’s famous chocolate brownies—a sweet treat for the road.
