Last night, fall showers soaked the SoHo streets, but inside a private residence in the neighborhood, Mr Porter hosted a cozy dinner to induct the newest member of the Style Council. The stylish group of attendees braved the weather, traded in their outdoor shoes for slippers, and surrendered the use of social media to honor Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, as the council’s newest member.
Donning a mix of Amiri and Saint Laurent (Gebbia’s go-to label), there are no questions as to why the entrepreneur found a home within the Mr Porter family. “I have been a fan of Mr Porter for a long time. First as a customer, now as a member of its council. I’m excited about what will come of it,” he tells Vogue.
Those who are wondering what exactly Mr Porter’s Style Council is could find an answer by taking note of the evening’s guests. Real estate moguls clinked glasses with tv show producers; fine artists played a few rounds of pool with stylists; gym owners enjoyed the delights of hor d’oeuvres with travel agents. In short: the council is a group of impeccably dressed men from all sorts of trades, coming together and having a good time.
After a few cocktails and moments admiring the residence, guests were treated to a three-course meal provided by the renowned chefs, Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson of Frenchette. Steak au jus was the main course because, according to Hanson, “it’s Joe’s favorite.” As laughter continued to fill the air, so did several servings of espresso martinis. And, if the evening says anything about the Style Council and it’s the latest addition, it’s that everybody certainly wants in.
