Prada Pays Tribute to Modeling’s History by Dipping Into Its Casting Archives 

If there’s one show every model wants to walk, it’s Prada. The Milanese fashion house’s runways have become a launchpad for new talents who embody Miuccia Prada’s vision. Fall 2022 continued that tradition, but took things a step further by focusing on women whose careers began with the brand. In the lead-up to the collection, Prada’s social media accounts heralded a “salute to the profession of modeling” with home video clips of its faces pre-fame. The last 24 hours have been filled with childhood snapshots from models like Kendall Jenner, Anok Yai, and Chu Wong. The clips were cute, but casting director Ashley Brokaw saved the biggest surprise for the event itself, where more than a dozen models who previously opened for Prada openers reunited on the runway. 

Kaia Gerber snagged the first look, but many others who’d walked in her shoes were sprinkled among the cast. One familiar face after another revealed themselves, starting with American model Amanda Murphy, who made her debut at Prada’s Fall 2013 show. Noughties model fans spied former Prada regulars like Finnish star Suvi Koponen, who debuted back in 2007, and Dutch beauty Querelle Jansen who took the top spot for spring 2012. Nineties campaign stars like Hannelore Knuts, Erin O’Connor, and runway-star-turned-tech-entrepreneur Emily Sandberg Gold, also featured. 

Even with all the welcome throwbacks to previous seasons, some of Prada’s most recognizable retro stars—Sasha Pivovarova and Christy Turlington among them—were absent. Euphoria star Hunter Schafer thrilled the audience by the closing show, but imagine the shockwaves if reclusive Canadian fashion icon Daria Werbowy, who hasn’t graced a fashion show with her presence in nearly eight years, had stepped onto the catwalk to join her.
