Despite the fact that it was nearly 70 degrees in New York over the weekend, I have finally completed my fall wardrobe changeover. It took almost two weeks to swap out the gossamer fabrics and summer dresses that have hung in my closet since May with the contents of stealth storage containers filled with sweaters, heavyweight blazers, and my prized coat collection, but I am now prepared for whatever polar vortex may or may not be coming my way. Settling into my vintage furs and 3.1 Phillip Lim crushed-velvet boots has made me acutely aware of one grave oversight, however: My trusty Clé de Peau concealer color-matched to summer’s tan should have been packed away with my sleeveless jumpsuits.
“YES,” makeup artist Daniel Martin tells me in caps-lock when I ask him whether I should update my winter makeup wardrobe along with my clothing and accessories. He specifically calls out complexion-evening products as the first thing to be updated, as skin tones tend to lighten around the time the clocks turn back.
