Inside Miles Teller and Keleigh Sperry’s Elegant Wedding in Maui—See All of the Photos
Music brought actor Miles Teller and model Keleigh Sperry together. The two met at a party for the Black Keys back in 2013. “We both had mutual friends of the band,” Miles remembers. “Keleigh had caught my eye early in the night, and we talked. I didn’t think it went well, but after a few more attempts, I got her to dance with me, and a week later, we went on a date. After we met, I knew she was the one.” Keleigh remembers things a little bit differently: “He was so charming and charismatic,” she recalls. “I adored him from the first moment we met.”
The couple had been dating for four years when they took a big trip to South Africa for a vacation. “On safari, our jeep would stop for coffee every morning,” Keleigh explains. “We stopped for our usual coffee break, and Miles and I were taking in the view when I spotted a rose on a tree. I was surprised to see a rose in the middle of winter in Africa, so I walked over and found a note attached to the rose that said the day we started dating and the day it was. I turned around, and he read it and said, ‘that was the first day you became my girlfriend and today is the last,’ and he got down on one knee. It was so thoughtful and romantic.”
“Surprising Keleigh is really hard, and I knew she would think I’d travel to Africa with the ring,” Miles admits. “We started our trip in the Seychelles. I think she thought I would do it by a beach, so I waited to do it on safari and take her by surprise.”
After the proposal, they quickly decided on Maui for the location of their destination wedding, as Keleigh’s family spends every summer there. “Miles started joining us on vacations, and we fell in love with it together,” she says. “We both felt happiest there and wanted it to be a big part of our lives forever.”
The look of the wedding was traditional Hawaiian chic, and Keleigh and Miles worked with Christie Rose Events in California and Unveiled Hawaii in Maui to achieve the aesthetic they were going for. “It was important for us to work with Unveiled Hawaii as they’re on the island, and we were too busy to facilitate [certain things],” Keleigh says. “Christie Rose Events really guided us through the process and was very hands on. We are so grateful.” The couple chose a lot of greenery and flowers in chinoiserie vases with big blooms overflowing with elements of gold for the ceremony and reception spaces at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua Hotel in Maui. “I love the look of antique glassware paired with unique centerpieces with whimsical lighting,” Keleigh explains.
Even though she was getting married in Hawaii, the bride never saw herself in a typical beach wedding dress. “I wanted to keep it elegant and classic since our ceremony was in a church, but I also wanted there to be a light feel to the dress,” Keleigh explains. She worked with Monique Lhuillier to create exactly what she was looking for. “They really guided me through my vision,” she says. “We started with a pretty simple dress that I redesigned a bit to get the perfect timeless feel.” She complemented the look with her mom’s necklace—a piece that all of her sisters have also worn down the aisle.
Miles wore custom Celine designed by Hedi Slimane. “I’ve been really fond of Miles ever since I met and photographed him in Los Angeles in 2011,” the designer shares. “I am really attached to those early portraits. There was already something so classic and extremely charismatic about him.”
The ceremony took place on Sunday at a Catholic church on the island. The couple wrote their own vows and exchanged gold wedding bands designed by their friend Jen Meyer. In keeping with a laidback Hawaii vibe, bridesmaids were in pretty Reformation dresses and the groomsmen wore Bonobos suits. Afterwards, the reception followed on the beach with the sun setting in the background, and a 12-piece band played some of the couple’s favorite songs during dinner. The couple did their first dance to Vince Gill’s “If I Didn’t Have You,” and then later in the night, the bride changed into a Katie May dress for her second look before guests moved into one of the smaller ballrooms for a tropical jungle-themed after-party. There, Norwegian DJ Kygo performed, and the new Mr. and Mrs. Teller danced until dawn.
