Tate McRae Dials Up the Old Hollywood Glamour at the 2026 Grammys

Tate McRae found out she earned her first Grammy nomination from none other than her mother. The singer, who was nominated last night for best dance pop recording for “Just Keep Watching” from the F1 movie, told Vogue: “I was waking up for my second-to-last show, and the first text I saw was from my mom: ‘Good morning, my Grammy-nominated artist.’ Honestly, it was so cute. That was just the cherry on top of an already insane year.”

While the 2026 Grammys—and her first nomination—were already pinch-me territory, McRae met the moment in custom Balenciaga by Pierpaolo Piccioli. “For my first Grammys, I wanted something with structure and edge, with a lot of details,” McRae tells Vogue ahead of the Grammys. “I’ve admired the work of Pierpaolo for so long, so being able to create a custom look together for an occasion like this is such a dream.”

A vision of Old Hollywood glamour, McRae hit the carpet in a black strapless two-piece with a convex neckline. While its bodice fans out into a dramatic train, the pants underneath were embellished with layers of long, spiky black petals—a memorable motif from Piccioli’s first collection for Balenciaga, spring 2026.

Sister styling duo and pop-star whisperers Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo kept the old-school glam going with McRae’s accessories. Piccioli called back to Cristóbal Balenciaga’s day with a pair of black evening gloves and a custom clutch. McRae upped the ante with black crepe satin Christian Louboutin slingbacks and jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz.

For McRae, who got her start on So You Think You Can Dance as a child, the moment is a culmination of years of hard work. “I feel like it’s going to be exactly how I’ve always imagined it,” she says. “You spend your whole life quietly dreaming of moments like this, and somehow, when they finally arrive, they look so much like the visions you held onto when you were younger. There’s something incredibly special about that—watching a dream grow with you and then meeting it again in real life.”
