The Best of Venus Williams’s On-Court Style
Over more than three decades (and seven Grand Slam singles titles), Venus Williams has redefined tennis in the popular psyche. More than dominating the court with her speed and fearsome serve, she’s also been a force for change: helping to secure equal pay for women at Wimbledon, breaking barriers for players of color within a historically white sport, and advocating for mental health. All the while, Williams has—alongside her sister Serena Williams—established a striking sense of style under the stadium lights. (Not for nothing did she earn a degree in fashion design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2007.)
Some of Williams’s most memorable moments on the court have subverted the traditional tennis whites. Through her partnership with Reebok, her icy white ’fits have come in forward-thinking cuts, more sculptured silhouettes, and unconventional textures. She’s also debuted bolder and more colorful outfits from her own performancewear brand, EleVen, over the years—think: skorts in geometric prints, and tennis dresses in coral, aqua, and cherry red.
The 2025 US Open marked an especially epic fashion run for Williams, with custom kits styled by Ronald Burton III (who has worked with Erykah Badu and Solange Knowles). For her mixed doubles match with Reilly Opelka, Williams took the court in a navy cap-sleeve tennis dress with white piping by Khaite and footwear by Lacoste, for which she became an ambassador in 2023. (The brand also created her 2025 Met Gala look.) Tapping another New York designer, Williams and Burton looked to Raul Lopez for a Luar look, in partnership with Woolmark, for her match with John McEnroe: a black tennis dress with an asymmetrical pleated skirt and button-studded track jacket with a popped collar. Another outfit, via ERL, referenced the trailblazing tennis player Althea Gibson: Williams wore a custom white ERL polo and matching pleated skirt and visor that mirrored Gibson’s match uniform, accessorizing with a striking, shearling tennis bag.
With Williams named a co-chair of the 2026 Met Gala, celebrating “Costume Art,” we can’t wait to watch her take another big swing on fashion’s biggest stage. Until then, revisit some of her best on-court style moments throughout the years.
