Vogue100 Hosts a Fashion Week Fête at Les Trois Chevaux
Few New York City restaurants epitomize Vogue. Les Trois Chevaux is one of them. In her new West Village restaurant, chef and proprietor Angie Mar serves up more than just fabulous French cuisine. Mar made sure no detail was overlooked from the vintage Waldorf Astoria crystal chandelier that welcomes guests upon arrival to the custom Christian Siriano numbers sported by her staff. And, on the eve of New York’s highly anticipated return to in-person runway shows, Vogue100 gathered fashion friends and folk for a formal affair at Mar’s Les Trois Chevaux. The night honored empowering women, Markarian’s Alexandra O’Neill (the designer behind Dr. Jill Biden’s inauguration dress) and Mar—they were a perfect pair to celebrate the start of a new season.
“I’m so grateful for my wonderful Vogue family, who have been such supporters of me and my vision from the start,” O’Neill smiled, looking out at the dining room filled with guests dressed in her designs. “I’ve been looking forward to tonight, and my show on Friday for so long, and I couldn’t be happier to share these special moments with you all!”
As all nights should, the evening kicked off with specialty martinis curated by Mar herself. Crafted exclusively with Tanqueray No. Ten Gin, yellow chartreuse, oleo-Saccharum, and Champagne, the Francaise cocktail was a hit amongst the buzzy crowd. Vodka drinkers sipped Lan Xias, a fruity twist on the classic cocktail prepared with Ketel One vodka, persimmon, nigiri, cranberry, lime, and topped with a silky egg white foam. Of course, there were straight-up versions of plenty paired with dry vermouth and topped with a lemon twist.
Martinis in hand, Vogue’s Virginia Smith and Jordan Rhodes swapped their NYFW schedules. Anna Wintour also made an appearance, welcoming the many guests before heading uptown to Harlem Front Row. Guests including Chioma Nnadi, Mark Guiducci, Nicole Phelps, Rickie de Sole, Elise Taylor, Lilah Ramzi, and Laura Lee of Khruangbin enjoyed a cocktail in the calm before the fashion week storm. And, a few of Vogue’s September cover stars like Sherry Shi, Yumi Nu, and Ariel Nicholson even stopped by to enjoy the festivities.
Soon the evening transitioned to a multi-course meal, which started with Urbani truffled croissants and caviar paired with a glass of Champagne Delamotte. Next up, Mar prepared a fresh tartare de la mer, asperges blanches, truffled turbot with légumes des jardins, and a canard á L’Orange. For dessert, créme caramel alongside lychee and Armagnac for the tables enjoy with a nightcap cocktail.
A fashion lover and food extraordinaire, Mar spoke to the group just before heading into the kitchen. “When I was a little girl, I used to sneak two magazines into my bed to read at night,” Mar laughed in her custom Markarian gown, “Of course, those would be the latest editions of Vogue and Food Wine.”
Before guests bid the night adieu, Mar made sure everyone could take a piece of Les Trois Chevaux’s charm home by sending them off with homemade pistachio cookies—a sweet note to start off fashion week.
