[Woman] I remember looking the mirror when I was a child.

I was wearing this blouse and thought,

I look like a pirate.

And I thought,

I can

decide how to go into battle.

[thudding]

[speaking in foreign language]

The clothes can be my armor

and they create a screen so I can decide how I want to feel.

[heavy breathing]

I was 10 and thought,

I look stupid like a pirate.

I was wearing, like, a flowered top with a scoop neck

and puffed sleeves and long, straight hair.

It was the first time I looked in the mirror

and didn t like myself.

It was summer, there was a garden, children outside.

[girls laughing]

And I was alone in my room,

having this bad time with the mirror.

[heavy breathing]

And then I put on something else

and probably went to play in the garden.

[hand slapping]

I can t remember what I put on.

[dramatic music]

[hand slapping]

[Woman] One more time.

[dramatic music]

[Woman] Excuse me!

[girl laughing] You watch your mouth, boy!

I spent all my money on thigh-high boots,

but they went up so high.

[girl laughing]

[body thudding]

Should I wear white?

Whatever you do, babe, don t let your mother dress you.

I got pregnant on my honeymoon.
