Coming off of a winter that saw candy-colored fur coats and giant printed puffer jackets ruling the fashion conversation, it might be hard to imagine that a classic blazer can provide your wardrobe with that same sort of spark. The street style stars, however, have in fact proved that theory to be untrue, as they are wont to do. Models, designers, and editors embraced the oversize blazer during the Fall 2019 shows, styling theirs with everything from long, psychedelic print dresses to leopard biker shorts and knee-high boots. Some of the jackets had strong shoulders and big gold buttons while others fit with a loose, menswear-inspired swag.
Of course, the timeless jeans-and-a-check-blazer combo is always in play, but the silhouette of an oversize jacket provides more coverage and can therefore be a clever stand-in for one of those statement spring coats. The idea is to pump up the volume and go big with your blazer this season. For inspiration, look no further than these five street style snaps for a masterclass on the art of the boxy between-seasons jacket.
