Tokyo has always felt like the epicenter of all things fabulously far-out, at least so far as street style is concerned. Fashion Week Fall 2019 was no exception. Last week, we saw well-dressed oddballs of all stripes: chic goths wearing JNCOs and chains, sharing the sidewalks with decadent punks in trendy plaid pants and statement bags.
There were plenty of futuristic looks, too: One of our favorite street style snaps featured a group of Matrix-y denizens of tomorrow, who wore brightly colored sweats and bespoke surgical masks. On the other end of the spectrum, there were also plenty of casual and cool looks out and about. Think: showgoers in slouchy jeans, statement hoodies, and pillowy sneakers.
Ultimately, fashion eccentrics and relaxed streetwear savants coexisted beautifully in our survey of the streets in Tokyo. Here, a few of our favorite ways to dress, no matter which camp you fall into.
