This Week, Stars Revisited the Classics and Made the Most of Vintage

Fashion month has just ended. And although there are new clothes galore to debut on the red carpet, the world’s most stylish can still opt for vintage and all the can’t-touch-that depth and intrigue that it offers. For example, when Amal Clooney arrived at the Buckingham Palace last week in a Jean-Louis Scherrer haute couture look from 2007 the conversation wasn’t focused on which brand she’d aligned herself with. Instead, everyone noted how elegant she looked chatting with Prince Charles. Likewise, Penélope Cruz’s refined Chanel suit at the 2019 Union De Actores Awards reflected the timelessness of Karl Lagerfeld s designs and the decade long friendship he had shared with the actress.

Even the newer pieces worn this week reflected a newfound focus on classics and heritage. The leopard print coat Keira Knightley chose for a visit to AOL’s Build studio may have seemed culled from a consignment store, but it was from fellow-actress, Rooney Mara’s ethically sourced label, Hiraeth Collective. Kate Moss is renowned for her vintage-filled wardrobe, but for the NPG gala she gave her rock chick look an update, replacing her signature old furs with a cruelty-free Stella McCartney bolero.
