Last Week, Stars Found a New Way to Wear Leather 

The end of awards season inevitably brings a fashion sea change as the big dresses are pushed to the back of the closet, and casual style moves to the forefront. Over the past week, as stars headed to events, premieres, and international collections, they embraced ease and practicality. Leather in all its forms—vintage, vegan, patent, and more—became the material of choice for tastemakers in search of impactful outerwear. Bella Hadid breezed through Manhattan in a seafoam Saks Potts coat with matching Holzweiler trousers, turning the sidewalk into her personal runway yet again. Likewise, Paloma Elsesser brought glamour to the front row at Coach’s fall 2020 show in a belted leather trench and glossy metallic boots.

Miley Cyrus, meanwhile, skipped the coat but kept the leather theme going by revisiting a classic collection. In crimson lace-up pants Dior pants designed by John Galliano, Cyrus delivered a throwback look with a modern twist, hours before making her runway debut at Marc Jacobs.

Elsewhere, unexpected fabric elevated familiar silhouettes. At Call of the Wild’s world premiere, Karen Gillian delighted in a gilded Rochas slip dress with the texture of gold leaf. Molly Goddard is known for her tulle gowns, but sitting on her fall 2020 front row, Jourdan Dunn showed the magic the designer can evoke with denim, too. Elegant, effortless, and chic, Dunn’s jean dress captured the laid-back mood of the moment.
