Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you likely noticed that this month was kicked off by a certain kind of Taylor Swift hysteria—given the pop star just released her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, last week. In the days that have followed, Swift has been doing the talk show rounds in extremely glitzy and theatrical dresses. Her wardrobe focus has been all about embracing flashy, sequin-covered pieces that are worthy of the spotlight. And now, Amal Clooney is getting in on the shimmering action, too.
This evening, alongside her husband George Clooney, the human rights lawyer attended the premiere of his new film, Jay Kelly, at the BFI London Film Festival in the U.K. Her red carpet look was decidedly showgirl-worthy: Clooney donned a sequined, strapless gown with a fringed skirt by Tamara Ralph—complete with a feathered shawl, for even more drama. Why not?! Ralph has been the go-to designer for celebrities looking for such razzle-dazzle on the step and repeat. Stars like Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, and Halle Berry have also been spotted wearing her sparkling creations.
It may be easy to mark Clooney’s disco ball dressing as the result of all the Swiftie energy in the air, but Amal fans know that the barrister has long been a fan of glamorous gowns. Typically, though, Clooney leans a little more subdued, favoring vintage black John Galliano slips or elegant Versace dresses in pastel chiffons. Her sparkling Tamra Ralph, in a peppy Barbie pink, certainly feels more The Life of a Showgirl-adjacent. And the timing is too perfect. So, taking a poll now: Do you think Amal blasts “The Fate of Ophelia” or “Opalite” when she’s at home alone? Or perhaps she is more of an “Elizabeth Taylor” fan. Her chandelier earrings on the carpet certainly would have made Taylor proud.
