Red carpet season has officially begun. In the first week of 2017, Hollywood’s A-list had a slew of pre–Golden Globes bashes, but last night inside the Beverly Hilton hotel, the stars were there to celebrate and toast each other. At the top of the carpet, nominee Amy Adams held court at the Entertainment Tonight station, while nearby director and designer Tom Ford cut an elegant figure chatting with Priyanka Chopra who looked like a Golden Globe statue herself in a custom Ralph Lauren dress. Benjamin Millepied and a pregnant Natalie Portman passed by, Portman channeling her award-nominated on-screen character Jacqueline Kennedy in a chartreuse Prada frock. Also nearby was new mom Blake Lively, who returned to the Globes carpet in support of husband Ryan Reynolds. Just at the end of the carpet was a bar serving the ceremony’s official Champagne, Moët Chandon—a longstanding favorite of the evening’s stars, some of whom had taken to sipping it in miniature bottles while they worked their way through the step and repeat. Ruth Negga (in Louis Vuitton’s slinky metallic dress) stopped by the brand’s Toast for a Cause charity initiative with her Loving costar Joel Edgerton, as did Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman (who stole the show in a frothy frock from Alexander McQueen).
After the last sips of Moët were taken, it was time for Jimmy Fallon to take the stage. And the show didn’t disappoint: From Viola Davis’s poignant introduction of Meryl Streep, to Streep’s powerful message of inclusion, the night was brimming with positive energy and hope. That sentiment carried throughout the evening with Jake Gyllenhaal stopping by to chat with Emily Ratajkowski, Emma Stone celebrating La La Land’s many victories with Ryan Gosling and director Damien Chazelle, and Thandie Newton laughing with Zoe Saldana. But the celebrating didn’t end once the cameras cut from the awards as the stars flitted over to the nearby after-parties.
