Hours before Colin Kaepernick and Nessa Diab hit the Met Gala 2025 red carpet, are in joyful spirits. “It’s game time, baby!” Diab tells Vogue over Zoom. “It truly is something remarkable,” Kaepernick adds: “This might be our first official time stepping out like this, and also just being parents.” The pair welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in 2022—and are eager for a glamorous date night ahead.

“As a mom, it’s not just making sure I look good on the outside—it’s also feeling amazing on the inside,” Diab continues. “And for a lot of parents out there who have a toddler, trying to figure out childcare and all these things can be a bit stressful, so it’s also finding a way to not let the stress show on my face and my body. So mom and dad are stepping out on the red carpet, and we celebrate each other and we encourage each other, and hopefully you get to see that when you see us tonight.”

As with any good date night, coordinating outfits was essential. To wit, the duo entrusted Moncler for the brand’s Met Gala debut—a vision brought to life by Edward Enninful. “[Enninful is] one of the most visionary and influential people within the creative industry, and the opportunity to work with him—going through the looks, the designs, how we actually wanted to bring this to life; his attention to detail—we’re very honored to be a part of [this],” Kaepernick says. Tonight, the pair is partnering with Moncler and Enninful to introduce Moncler x EE72 by Edward Enninful, which launches in September.

Kaepernick sported a bespoke three-piece burgundy suit with a dramatic cape, made in collaboration with Ozwald Boateng—complete with a Kente print that evokes themes of stability, honor, and pride. “He was able to pull that in in a very elegant, sophisticated way to balance this idea of strength and vulnerability while having a presence on the carpet,” he says. The look also featured an antique art deco diamond brooch from the collection of Briony Raymond, rings by Joseph Saidian, and a collection of diamonds and precious stones.

Diab’s ensemble takes similar cues, paying homage “to Moncler’s outerwear legacy with the cropped cape in Moncler’s signature nylon laqué,” Diab says, noting the silhouette features the brands’s “iconic boudin quilting.”

She also points out the distinct Moncler x EE72 by Edward Enninful logo as well as the black silk dress with an elongated corset-inspired bodice by Chuks Collins from the Spring 2025 collection: “The dress is titled An Ode to Mama and honors maternal strength, legacy, and artistry which is passed down through generations,” Diab explains. “I love that because I’m a mom, so I felt this all the way through. And the gown blends the heritage of dandyism with a soulful narrative of identity and ancestry.” Jewels by Boucheron, shoes by Gianvito Ross, and a bag by Roger Vivier provide the ultimate finishing touches.

The couple is honored to be part of a Gala that celebrates Blackness and heritage. “I think about the theme in relation to this moment and how powerful it is to bring the idea of “Tailoring Black Style” to a moment where we see a lot of pressure and targeting of Black communities,” Kaepernick says. “The opportunity to elevate and really show power and strength and community—and to be able to work with the designers on this and have it come to life in this way—I couldn’t think of anything that would be more timely than to show up at the Met Gala in this way.”

Naturally, Kaepernick would rock his signature Afro for the evening. “Thinking about Black dandyism and legacy and this moment… yeah, we had to have the Afro out in full display,” he says. “It also goes perfectly with the suit and the vibe: so straightforward, but powerful.”

For Kaepernick and Diab, it s all about “showing up and showing out,” as Diab puts it. Tonight, she says, is the “prettiest, most glamorous” she’s ever felt. “Every single person made me feel amazing, and it mattered so much, especially to Edward, that I felt and looked amazing. And the way they celebrated my curves, my body, and who I am really means the world to me, and I am just so thankful. And I just wanted to say that, because when you find people who celebrate you, you keep them near and dear and you show them love.” To that end, it was something of a family affair: “We also got a little outfit for our daughter that we get to spend time with in preparation, so she’ll get a bit of that experience too, which is amazing,” Kaepernick says—a reminder that community connection is the ultimate unifier.
