Emily Ratajkowski is known for provocative outfits that leave little to the imagination. Whether she’s in low-slung cargo pants and an itsy-bitsy crop top on the streets of New York, or wearing a shimmering, curve-accentuating naked dress by emerging London designer Feben at the Vanity Fair Oscars party, the model consistently serves fashion with a generous helping of sex appeal and – as Megan Thee Stallion put it in her 2020 hit single – body-ody-ody. But this summer, EmRata’s style has taken a slightly different, albeit still alluring turn.
A recent Instagram post finds the model and author joyfully exploring lavender fields. A comment from the Jacquemus Instagram account, saying simply, “Back”, hinted at her location in Valensole in Provence, where the French brand’s spring 2020 show was staged against the backdrop of lavender fields. To complement the idyllic countryside setting, EmRata opted for an ensemble that embraced the charm of #Cottagecore – a nostalgia-laden aesthetic that was trending in 2020. Her look featured a navy and white gingham off-the-shoulder crop top with ruched trims and puffy sleeves, paired with a matching skort and hoop earrings.

Ratajkowski adopted a similar vibe to attend the Jacquemus fall 2023 show at Versailles a few weeks ago. Her all-white ensemble included a bralette with voluminous sheer sleeves, a matching tutu mini skirt and square-toe ballet pumps.
Kylie Jenner has also taken a fashion U-turn this summer, incorporating CottageCore elements into her wardrobe. The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan wore a blue and white floral dress with a smocked bodice and A-line maxi skirt by California brand Doên, which she teamed with a white and red pair of Marine Serre trainers – a departure from her usual body-con looks. Prior to that, she was spotted in Paris, braving the heat in a white dainty cotton poplin maxi dress by Alaïa.
This summer, the pastoral fantasy that dominated TikTok in 2020 is making a comeback among the It-girls. You can opt for a pared-back, girly approach like Kylie, wearing trainers with the look, or go for a sexier vibe with skin-baring cut-outs like EmRata. Either way, the key is to create an outfit tailor-made for frolicking through a meadow filled with flowers.
