While New York might be stiflingly hot, over in Copenhagen, where Fashion Week just ended, the chilly temperatures are giving us a preview of cool styles we can expect to see on the streets this fall. As well as Céline sunglasses and Gucci mules, patent leather emerged as a key player, appearing on everything from coats to skirts.
To offset the material’s subversive allure, street-style stars mixed in a hefty dose of feminine flourishes. Fashion Week fixture Pernille Teisbaek accessorized her shiny patent-leather mini with a lavender Ganni sweatshirt and Miu Miu’s crystal-embellished furry heels, for example, while another showgoer tucked a blush-colored Dior tee into her high-waisted skirt. Fashion editor Veronika Heilbrunner took such a liking to the trend that she sported it not once but twice during the three-day-long round of shows. She first put a sleek cropped trenchcoat over a fuchsia knit sweater, then wore hip-hugging high-gloss pants that she topped off with a baby pink hoodie. Above, five standout patent-leather looks that give new meaning to the term city slicker.
