“As a model, you always have to take off your jewelry when you’re working, so I just quit wearing it,” says Hanneli Mustaparta. “I like letting the clothes shine on their own—but I don’t want it to be a habit.”
What stronger motivation for breaking from unadorned routine than the fact that Dolce Gabbana’s first fine-jewelry collection hit stores last week. With sparkling clusters of sapphires and strands of enamel charms, the unexpectedly delicate selection is the perfect warm-up toward spring’s ultra-embellished look. Even better, the designers’ signature sense of Sicilian chic and Madonna references—jeweled crosses and hoop earrings evoke the one who was “Like a Virgin,” while one-of-a-kind iconographic charms and black-jade rosaries evoke the one who was a Virgin—make delightful foils to preppy sweaters and buttoned-up blouses. Mustaparta found the brushed-metal necklaces and bracelets to be ideal gateway pieces into a more accessorized life. “What I love is that they’re not hard-core shiny gold,” she says. “They’re matte, which is easier to wear for day.”
Above, Mustaparta styles three looks around her favorite pieces from the Dolce Gabbana new fine-jewelry collection.
