We know what you’re thinking: “Another Dyson Airwrap?” And honestly, we had the same idea. But from the moment we unboxed the new Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x, which launched earlier this summer, we knew it was a worthy upgrade to its beloved predecessors.

The most notable difference? Shagita Gounden, senior manager of beauty portfolio architecture at Dyson, confirms that the new Coanda 2x produces twice the air pressure compared to the previous generation, powered by the brand’s fastest, most powerful hair-care motor yet. Think of it as the difference between taking a luxury C-class vehicle for a spin versus zooming along in Lewis Hamilton’s grand prix race car (Coanda, of course, being the latter).

And that’s not the only improvement. The pièce de résistance is the Coanda’s smoothing technology. This isn’t just hot air—it’s precision engineering that corrals flyaways like a backstage stylist on a mission, delivering that coveted glass-hair finish without scorching your strands into oblivion.

The new attachments also got a new look: Brushes now feature snag-free, nylon-esque bristles (rather than the faux boar bristles of their earlier counterparts), which promise fewer tangles and a serious reduction in breakage. They glide through hair with the finesse of a professional—no snagging, no drama—whether you’re chasing bombshell curls, a bouncy blowout, a pin-straight swish, or just need to dry your hair ASAP. Below, everything you need to know about the new device, from how it amplifies the benefits of the OG tool to our editor’s honest feedback.

About the Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x

The new Coanda 2x is the more powerful, 2.0 version of the original Airwrap, so you can expect similar styling and drying capabilities in less time and with even more streamlined results. “Through its new motor technology and intelligent attachments, this machine offers better curling, faster drying, and straighter styles, with no heat damage,” Gounden continues, adding that it is also smaller and lighter in hand for improved maneuverability and control.

Innovating an already-revolutionary hot tool is a tall order but Dyson, of course, thought through all the details. “We were inspired by the creativity of our customers and wanted to put more power in [their] hands to achieve greater style versatility,” Gounden adds, explaining that the Hyperdymium 2 motor that powers the new device is Dyson’s fastest and most powerful hair-care motor to date. “It delivers twice the air pressure to wrap hair more easily, dries hair as fast as a full performance hair dryer, and creates sleek looks.”

The Airwrap’s commitment to catering to all hair types is still alive and well with this next-gen model, which comes in two variants—Straight+Wavy and Curly+Coily—complete with six attachments tailored to the needs of those hair types and lengths. Nine styling attachments have been engineered for this device to curl, wave, smooth, straighten, and volumize, though you should note that these are not compatible with any other Dyson devices. Some attachments you already know and love, like the curling barrels which utilize Coanda airflow and the round volumizing brush for a bouncy blowout. Other add-ons are new, like the Airsmooth 2x, which uses velocity airflow to straighten hair, similar to that of Dyson’s Airstrait. The models catered to curly hair types feature a tension comb and diffuser to aptly detangle and define coils with ease.

For even more customization, you can also tailor your machine to your routine through the MyDyson app. “When connected, you can personalize your curl sequence for barrel attachments to suit your styling needs and select your go-to heat and airflow preferences for each attachment,” says Gounden.

And no matter how you style your hair, trust that it will be taken care of with minimal heat involved. Despite being so powerful, this device minimizes heat damage through two glass bead thermistors that “measure air temperature 1,000 times per second and keep it stable no matter the type of use the machine is subjected to,” according to Gounden. Still, you should certainly use heat protectant to be safe!

Our experience with the Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x

I’ll admit it: Even as a Dyson hair tool devotee, I was a tad skeptical about the need for yet another Airwrap. Oh, how wrong I was. From the very first go, I was floored. For context, my hydrophobic hair typically takes a lifetime (or what feels like one) to dry—yes, even with a bob. Honestly, part of the reason I chopped my hair in the first place was pure protest against the hours spent drying and styling. Though with the speed of the Coanda 2x, I might’ve reconsidered that chop. We’re talking bone-dry strands in under five minutes—something I genuinely didn’t think was possible. The power behind this blowdryer is next level; using it feels like stepping into a luxury car wash, and I mean that in the most affectionate way.

Then there are the attachments—redesigned, rethought, and actually smarter. Most notably, the brush heads. The original round brush’s synthetic bristles used to snag and tangle in my hair, especially during desperate attempts at DIY curtain bangs. The Coanda’s upgraded version features a combo of nylon and soft-tip bristles that glide effortlessly through my thick, wavy texture—no tugging, just bounce. The paddle brush also feels noticeably smoother, delivering a more polished finish with less friction. As for the curling barrels, they still have the iconic dual-direction design we know and love, but now operate at double the speed for faster, longer-lasting styles. Though I haven’t quite mastered the Airsmooth attachment yet—likely because my hair’s too short—I suspect those with mid-to-long lengths will appreciate the sleek, flat-iron-free finish it delivers in seconds.

Vogue’s senior beauty writer Kiana Murden had a similar experience. “When I initially tested the Coanda 2x, I used the round brush to blow out my natural curls,” she says. “A process that usually takes 30 minutes was cut in half—the brush working through my hair with no tangles in just under 15 minutes. So far, I think that attachment is my favorite, though I’ll always have a soft spot for the curling barrels—the attachments that really skyrocketed the original device to cult status a few years ago. The larger size is perfect to add quick volume, and surprisingly, the curls last longer with just a bit of hairspray. And for what it’s worth, I didn’t find it super heavy, either. The cord is quite long and the motor is certainly larger than the previous model, though neither of these things got in the way of my styling.”

How to use the Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x

For de Leon, what makes this tool so special is how it works with your hair. “No matter your hair type, you can achieve any look with it,” she says. “[As] Dyson’s most advanced multi-styler yet, it feels like it was designed for real people, not just pros.” That said, the Coanda2x is quite intuitive to use, especially for those already experienced with at-home styling. There’s no real right or wrong way to use it—we’d recommend starting with the attachment that best speaks to your desired style.

“The barrels are my go-to for soft, brushed out waves and volume,” she continues. “I love using the larger barrel, and letting it latch from the ends, releasing, letting it cool, then brushing out with a boards bristle brush and finishing with the Dyson Omega hydrating hair oil for a shiny and bouncy finish.” To really ensure your curls don’t fall, de Leon says prep is key—look for styling products that have a flexible hold. Celebrity makeup artist Scott King, on the other hand, is obsessed with the round brush attachment because it offers the most tension. “The rough dry attachment is also great to get most of the moisture out of the hair before styling,” he says. “I also suggest taking smaller sections if you have curly or textured hair.”

Is the Dyson Airwrap Coanda Worth It?

In my opinion, the Dyson Airwrap Coanda 2x is absolutely worth it. Yes, the price tag is steep, but the payoff—cordless freedom, salon-worthy results, universal voltage, and intelligent heat control—is undeniable. I’ve forgotten about all the other styling tools in my beauty drawer, instead opting for a quick rough dry and daily pass of my Corrale to perfect my mod hair flips without worry about causing heat damage.
