Hailey Bieber is a fan of a little ankle action. On that small expanse between shoe and tailored trouser, elegance abounds. And now the weather is heating up and we’re heralding the true return of spring, Bieber has reached into her transeasonal wardrobe for the long divisive pants length: Enter, the capri pant.

Bieber was photographed yesterday (April 17) leaving Sushi Park in West Hollywood after an evening meal—somewhere she frequents with husband Justin Bieber, and friends Zoë Kravitz, Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The unassuming LA sushi joint is something of a celebrity favorite. (You can catch Beyonce and Taylor Swift here too). This time, Bieber shared some sushi with Saint Laurent creative director and friend Anthony Vaccarello.

The Rhode founder, a few days off recovering from Coachella, stuck to the teachings of the Hailey Bieber school of styling: She wore a long, light beige open trench from Mango, a simple white tank top, and black capri pants. On her feet, a pair of delicate black strappy sandals—Femme LA’s “Maeve” slipper—with a black shoulder bag, and sunglasses. Her now long grown out bob sat straight to her shoulders, and she wore a hot pink blush and dark brown lip liner (Rhode’s Lip Shape in “Stretch?”). A classic trench is a Bieber staple, as is a well tailored and form-flattering pant: This is just the springtime update of a tried-and-tested formula.

Still, capri pants are a much-maligned bottom silhouette: But from Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina to Carrie Bradshaw and, unashamedly, this writer right here, the case has been made time and time again for the chic capri. And from The Row to emerging Copenhagen brand Birrot’s delightful, ankle-skimming numbers, to Paloma Wool, and LVMH prize finalist alum and Moldovan designer Fidan Novruzova, pedal pushers come in all forms and aesthetics. Bieber’s sense of style orbits the French girl aesthetic, so the capri makes total sense in her warmer weather wardrobe.

The strip mall parking garage and balcony walkways become runways themselves for celebrities like Bieber and Vaccarello heading for dinner at Sushi Park. The worlds of fashion and food continue to interpolate—from luxury French retailer Printemps opening with a James Beard Award-winning chef in its kitchen and Prada’s Wong Kar Wai-designed restaurant in Shanghai. Earlier this year, Saint Laurent opened a permanent branch of Sushi Park within its Paris boutique, all because Vaccarello and his inner circle love their omikase so much.

Bieber and Vaccarello have long been collaborators and friends. At the third annual Fashion Trust U.S. Awards, Vaccarello received the inaugural Honorary Award for his impact on the fashion industry. The honor was presented to him by Bieber, who of course, had to wrap herself up in aubergine-toned Saint Laurent.

“There is a purpose in every stitch,” Bieber said on stage. “Anthony Vaccarello, your journey is a testament to the transformative power of fashion, and we are so proud to celebrate you.”

Some more intimate words were probably shared over nigiri.
