This summer, Kendall Jenner made a splash in New York wearing what, at first glance, appeared to be a classic off-duty model look for daytime. Blazer? Check. Loafers? Check. Baseball cap? Check. Trousers? Well, that’s where it got interesting… The model had gone sans pants, a decision that promptly sent the internet wild.
Kendall, whose pins frequently pop up on the runways of Versace and Jacquemus, helped to pioneer the pantless trend that has spread like wildfire in celebrity circles. (Kendall most recently wore a cropped trench with no trousers on the frow at Gucci’s spring 2024 show in Milan.) Now, her BFF Hailey Bieber is hopping on the pants-free bandwagon.
Hailey opted for an eveningwear take on the risqué trend for a night out in Paris this week. She wore a cream rollneck sweater tucked neatly into a pair of black Petar Petrov briefs, accentuated by a chic black leather Saint Laurent belt featuring gold hardware. To top off her head-turning look, Bieber wore a floor-length The Matrix-inspired leather trench coat, along with micro-shades (also Saint Laurent), a black leather shoulder bag, sheer Calzedonia tights and black suede stilettos.
Last season, Miu Miu sent Emma Corrin down the runway wearing a khaki-colored sweater and gold sequin underwear (a look they have since repeated at the Venice Film Festival). Since then it’s clear that fashion’s most influential dressers have become enamored by the attention-grabbing style. At the spring 2024 shows, brands like Khaite, Gucci and Mowalola all showed ultra-micro shorts. Expect to see a lot more leg in the months to come.
