As brands such as Tom Ford, Thakoon, and Tommy Hilfiger have been busy flipping the show model on its head with the see-now-buy-now phenomenon at New York Fashion Week, last night Haley Bennett made an equally compelling case for the time-honored practice of couture on the red carpet. The actress arrived at the premiere of The Magnificent Seven during the Toronto International Film Festival looking every bit the leading lady in Christian Dior Couture, reimagining Old Hollywood glamour in a modern way.
With its ’50s-inspired nipped-waist silhouette and lightly undulated hem, the dress was just dramatic enough without overwhelming Bennett’s 5-foot-7 frame. Whimsical floral embroidery at the bust and a single bow detail at the shoulder provided a welcome playful note and was complemented by a similarly girlish Heidi-style braid. The Neil Lane jewels added a nice touch of sparkle, while Christian Louboutin evening pumps finished the look with grown-up sophistication. Award-worthy accessorizing, indeed.
