There is no such thing as a “fashion faux pas”. This is the kind of phrasing on which questionable makeover television shows from the 2000s were built. But if there was a styling “error” likely to inspire horror in conventional dressers, it’s the socks and sandals combination, which extends to socks and sandals and socks and just about anything which isn’t an enclosed shoe.
Irina Shayk has committed herself to flouting just about every fashion rule known to man. With stylist Natasha Colvin the Virgil to her Dante, the model has worn Elizabethan football boots with nude-illusion dresses, wedding dresses for non-marital purposes, thong-inspired knee-highs, and—gasp!—horizontal stripes.

Last night, Shayk compounded all of this in a pair of triple-toed stilettos with optic-white socks. Of course, plenty of designers (like Miuccia Prada) know just how saucy these miniature transgressions can be: clothing that is so wrong it’s right. The model wore that look with a Lacoste blazer and a squared-off tennis skirt, which makes sense given that the US Open has out-stripped fashion week in terms of positive press coverage.
