The 78th Cannes Film Festival kicked off earlier this week, with a starry opening ceremony led by Laurent Lafitte. On the red carpet, stars and personalities of the seventh art both defied and played with the newly updated dress code, from Bella Hadid in a Saint Laurent dress with a daring high slit by Anthony Vaccarello to Irina Shayk in a clutch of looks from a dramatic Armani Privé gown to another (vintage) Saint Laurent moment, and Julia Garner looking sleek in Gucci.
The jury members were eagerly awaiting: Hong Sang-soo, Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong, Alba Rohrwacher, Dieudo Hamadi, Payal Kapadia, Leïla Slimani, and Carlos Reygadas. Juliette Binoche, president of the 78th Cannes Film Festival was, of course, among them. The actor, who a few hours earlier had embraced the sunny style of the Côte d’Azur in a Jacquemus look, opted this time for a custom creation by Dior.
The ensemble featured an off-white silk crepe top with a perfectly draped hood, paired with matching pants. This Dior haute couture look, by Maria Grazia Chiuri, was a testament to the savoir-faire of the French fashion house, requiring two craftsmen and no less than 200 hours of work.
