The it girls have started their fall fashion switch-ins—but Kendall Jenner has one summer style tip she’s holding onto, fast.
Jennifer Lawrence is returning to her layers, Kate Holmes is leaning on her best denim jeans and a new clutch of covetable bags, and Hailey Bieber has proposed the return of teal with her tailoring as the weather begins to change and the evenings get longer. But Kendall Jenner? She’s not quite ready to let go of summer stylings, or rather, a particular way of wearing her clothes.
The model stepped out in Soho yesterday amid New York Fashion Week, where she wore a sleeveless, cream cotton top, loose and low-rise blank pants, and black flip-flops from The Row. She accessorized with a black woven shoulder bag, also from her beloved The Row, and shoft rectangular-shaped sunglasses. But what really rang true for the last gasps of summer style was not the flip-flops on her feet, but the way she tied her matching cardigan loosely around her hips.
The scarf-as-skirt and skirt-over-trousers layered trend was major this summer, seen on everyone from the aforementioned Lawrence to Rihanna, Alexa Chung, Vogue editors around the office, and Kendall Jenner’s own sister Kylie. While Kylie wore her scarf slung low over her white pants with a bikini top while summering in Tuscany, Kendall has opted for a more fall-sensible fit, a perfect hack for this time of year. It’s for when you don’t know what this transitional time is saying when you step out of the house, and smart layering and light separates are key for keeping stylish and comfortable.
The Kendall Jenner formula for style is defined by simple, pared-back looks, elevated with pops of red or luxe accessories. She is a devotee of The Row—catch her without her Margaux bag, never—but also delights in a range of outerwear in a way that makes us excited to see how she’ll square the cooler temps soon. Expect faux furs via her favorite vintage spots and Phoebe Philo, as well as Bottega Veneta. For her off-duty model nights out, we’ll be seeing more of her statement-making Alaïa and Mugler, we’re sure of it. And with NYFW continuing into the weekend, it might be sooner than you think.
