Every week, Vogue will be spotlighting tastemakers across industries to hear how they’ve been approaching self-care during the coronavirus pandemic. We asked actress Kiersey Clemons, who stars in the new film Antebellum (out August 21), how she’s been staying sane at home, from making jewelry to drinking rosé.

1. I’m playing a lot of Scrabble.

Watching our words get longer has been my favorite part. I know a lot more words than I thought! Being able to use words I just read or learned makes me feel childlike, and I’m seeking that feeling a lot right now. Giant Jenga is a close second favorite, but it’s a different stimulation compared to my girl Scrabble.

2. I’m crafting jewelry.

I have a jewelry-making box that I break out every summer. All the colors and shapes make me feel childlike and psychedelic. I like to be as bold and drastic as possible when designing earrings or necklaces. I will use either the biggest or the tiniest bead I can find. Other times I make the beads with clay. I dream about colors sometimes, and in the middle of the night will wake up to write down a color combination I thought of in my sleep. It’s like color therapy.

3. I’m decluttering everything except for shoes.

I’ve cleaned and organized every corner of my house, but I’m still not getting rid of shoes I’ll never wear. I love buying costume shoes, clothing, and jewelry as “just in case” pieces in my wardrobe. These white Victorian booties are two sizes too small, but I got them for 25 bucks and I have fantasies of a friend who wears a 6 saying, “I need some white Victorian boots!” And then I can say, “I have the perfect pair!” I only hoard clothing; everything else has been donated or tossed. Nothing is collecting dust or existing without intent. It’s a relief to know where everything I own is. Except, I don’t know where my birth certificate is.

4. I’m having fun in small ways.

Dressing up like a schoolboy to go buy hella toilet paper is a joy.

5. I’m drinking rosé.

I live in a swimsuit and with a wineglass in my hand. My favorite bikinis are from Riot Swim and Jade Swim (both Black-owned!). I basically put on my swimsuit, then do a cannonball into a giant glass of rosé. Helen’s Wines in Los Angeles has the best organic, fancy-pants wine.

6. I’m resting.

7. I’m toasting to special moments.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary at home with takeout crab legs. It was actually romantic because it felt so frivolous and silly. To be honest, I preferred it to gifts and going out for dinner. We spent the day getting full on crab legs and telling “do you remember when” stories. We also played a couples game app on our iPhones and realized that even after three months in lockdown together, there’s always more to learn about your significant other.
