Who could forget Stewart’s look for the opening of last year’s Berlin International Film Festival? She chose a white, floor-length petticoat dress from Chanel’s spring 2023 couture collection.
For this year’s Berlinale, Kristen was back in her Chanel, this time adding an unexpected detail to all that classic monochrome elegance. There to promote her film Love Lies Bleeding, Stewart wore an all-white look from Chanel Haute Couture spring 2024: a blazer with a miniskirt featuring a tulle overskirt, and a pair of pearlescent white tights as a final flourish. If it feels familiar, it may be because another young actor, Margaret Qualley, wore the same outfit on the couture runway last month.
White tights worn with black peep-toe sandals were a persistent theme in Virginie Viard’s couture collection, unveiled at the Grand Palais Éphémère last month. Hosiery is certainly back on the celebrity dressing agenda in a big way—last spring everyone from Kendall Jenner to Anya Taylor-Joy to Anne Hathaway was wearing boldly colored tights.
