Love it or loathe it, it’s undeniably the summer of flip-flops. The humble beach shoe, favored for its simplicity and ease, has been trending in a more high-fashion context this season. Suddenly, there are now celebrities wearing $750 The Row flip-flops with bright red soles, or flip-flops with sky-high platforms that are totally reminiscent of the ’90s. The sandal has become less about something you wear to take a quick dip in the ocean, and more about making a bold statement.
Naturally, Kylie Jenner is embracing the latter: She just posted an Instagram ’fit pic in which she is rocking one of the wildest flip-flops on the market. “The energy I’m bringing to my shoot today,” Jenner captioned her selfie, in which she is rocking a death-defying pair of ERL clunkers. Coming in with a staggering 5-inch platform, the $375 style requires serious balancing skills, and instantly commands an outfit. Jenner styled them with a black bra top and athletic track pants, allowing them to be the focal point. (I mean, the supersized shoes are hard to miss.)

While her skyscraper sandals may seem like a true commitment to wear (you try not twisting your ankle in them, please and thank you), they aren’t the craziest flip-flops that Jenner could have worn for her day on set. Last month, ERL released an 8-inch version of the shoe—simply dubbed the “huge flip flop”—that retail for a whopping $1,250. So, you could say Jenner’s platforms are a much more reasonable purchase then. Practical. Sensible, even!
