Please allow me to direct your attention to Lily Allen, whose recent style pivot has been criminally under-appreciated. Allen has recently been starring as Katurian in a production of Martin McDonagh s play The Pillowman at the Duke of York s Theatre in London s West End, but her excellent post-show looks deserve just as much attention as her performance.
Allen has always had a strong sense of style, but her recent parade signals a new era for the singer and actor. She burst onto the scene in 2006 with her album Alright, Still, and has since become known for her bold looks: micro-bangs, technicolor hair, and door-knocker earrings are all classic 2000s favorites of hers. Over the last few years, she s continued to level up, swapping lace collars paired with jeans and sneakers for sleek, cohesive fits.
With her stylist Kyle De Volle, Allen has been playing with color and texture while still curating a more refined, sophisticated wardrobe. In an effort that hasn t gone unnoticed, Allen ends The Pillowman coated in blood and exits the stage door in feminine dresses, floor-grazing skirts, and adorable matching sets. After all that, who could blame her if she just wanted to throw on some leggings and Uggs and call it a night? But as De Volle wrote on Instagram, “I ll be watching Wimbledon men s final this afternoon but i think the weeks strongest serves go to @lilyallen.”
