At tonight’s BAFTAs in London, Margot Robbie is nominated in the leading actress category for her work in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie—so it’s no wonder she and stylist Andrew Mukamal nodded to the iconic doll with her choice of red carpet attire. Once again embracing method dressing in Barbie pink, the star chose a custom look from Armani Privé (which famously created her pink sequined gown at this year’s Golden Globes). This time around, however, the look was very much Old Hollywood—but fit for a modern-day A-lister.

Robbie’s strapless pink and black dress featured a built-in sequined bralette and was accessorized with a pair of black opera gloves. The retro-glamorous silhouette and matching gloves called to mind the strapless Schiaparelli gown she wore to the LA premiere of the film last year, which served as a nod to the 1960 “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie—though this time, of course, there was way more pink. When it came to jewelry, the star went rather minimal, opting for dangling diamond earrings that lent a dazzling shimmer.

The finished ensemble was likely a reference to a specific archival Barbie; most of Robbie’s red carpet looks while promoting the film have nodded to one of Mattel’s vintage designs. But Mukamal has yet to post the inspiration on Instagram—so check back for more when it’s unveiled.
