This week marks the release of a new fashion book, The Look, which explores the inimitable style of Michelle Obama. Ever since she became First Lady in 2009, a role she held for two terms, Mrs. Obama and her right-hand stylist, Meredith Koop, have set the stage for what a powerful leader should look—and dress—like. It was only a matter of time, then, that a collection of images documenting her countless sartorial wins would be released into the world.

Last night, to celebrate the book, Mrs. Obama attended a live taping of her podcast IMO with Michelle Obama Craig Robinson. Held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and moderated by her friend Tracee Ellis Ross, the conversation revolved around Mrs. Obama’s style evolution—from her early days on the campaign trail with her husband, to becoming First Lady, and on to what her life looks like in the present day—and naturally, she chose a striking stage outfit in which to cover all of these bases.

Mrs. Obama—styled by Koop—chose one of the best pieces from our most recent fashion month, a striking and colorful viscose dress from Loewe’s spring 2026 collection, designed by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who made their debut at the brand this season. The high-neckline, sleeveless dress featured draped splashes of yellow and magenta—and ruching in all the right places. Mrs. Obama is the first public figure to wear a piece from the collection, one of the buzziest of the season.

The silhouette—evoking both strength and polish—is synonymous with the wardrobe that Mrs. Obama embodied and perfected during her time as First Lady, when she was known to embrace sprightly color while fiercely supporting American designers on the global stage. (McCollough and Hernandez, of course, are both American designers, despite now helming the Spanish luxury brand.) Inside the dress, meanwhile, a special custom tag simply read: “For Mrs. Obama.”
