President and Michelle Obama welcomed president-elect Donald and future First Lady Melania Trump to the White House yesterday, spawning a few seriously surreal photo ops, and, of course, a million memes. While there’s nothing funny (to at least half the country) about Trump’s election, and the rush among some to normalize it is troubling as can be, I have to admit that as memes popped up in various text chains with friends, they brought some much-needed comic relief. In the immortal words of Dolly Parton in Steel Magnolias, “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”
