Just now, as I’m writing this, our accessories editor, Ciarra Loren Zatorski is wearing a long cord pendant necklace, adding a touch of contrast to her otherwise monochromatic summer white ensemble. More times than I’d like to admit, I’ve caught myself admiring the solid gold Elsa Peretti bean on a silkstring that Vogue’s jewelry director, Daisy Shaw-Ellis, often sports against her crisp white T-shirts, and recently, I complimented a seashell string necklace that fashion editor, Mai Morsch, accessorized her chic all-black outfit with.
As for myself? I, too, fancy a cord necklace, especially in the summer, and have indulged in the trend with corded medallions from Taylor Sade’s Vertigo, stone chokers from Nuri Studios, and Heaven Mayhem’s adjustable Julia necklace (which I shamelessly own in three colors).
One look around our office and it’s obvious that cord necklaces are well-loved. Maybe it’s the ease in which they instantly upgrade an outfit that makes these ’90s inspired necklaces so popular or the undisputed fact that boho—à la Chloe and Isabel Marant–is back. Perhaps, it’s the accessibility and versatility of cord necklaces, which exist at virtually every price point, length, and color way under the sun.
Then again, part of their appeal is that cord necklaces are a bit paradoxical. The juxtaposition of a precious chunk of gold on a thin, barely-there piece of string makes fine jewelry feel grounded and accessible, yet a cord necklace can also transform earthy materials, like raw stones and natural shells, into adornments that look elevated, expensive, and at times, even delicate.

Heavy Metals
From collar-hugging chokers to long pendant necklaces, a metal cord necklace is one of the easiest and chicest ways to dress up all of your everyday outfits.
Stoned and Sparkly
If you want something with an earthier feel, turn to one of Vertigo’s stone pendants. If you’re looking for a necklace with maximum sparkle, try testing out one of Dorsey’s newest paracords.
Shells on String
There are few accessories that scream summer more than a seashell string necklace. They’re effortlessly beachy and the perfect piece to pack on all your sunny getaways.
Pearls and Glass
The delicacy of a single pearl or hand-blown glass pendant on a silk ribbon or cord adds a touch of femininity to any outfit and can be a great way to add a pop of color to a summer uniform.
