Guy Bourdin: Storyteller is part of the program of the side events taking place during the PhotoVogue Festival.
Opened in February 2023, the exhibition at Armani/Silos pays homage to the French photographer Guy Bourdin and his ability in joining together, in a shot, complex noir novels on the line of Hitchcock and Hopper. Curated by Giorgio Armani and the Guy Bourdin Estate, "Guy Bourdin: Storyteller" condenses 100 photographs, both iconic and less known, of this photographer, born painter, as we can notice in his study of colour and attention for the composition. The exhibition unravel in a chromatic journey which leads the visitor through different rooms of reds, greens, and pinks: a saturation of colours which has always been his distinctive feature. Even though aesthetically distant from Giorgio Armani, Guy Bourdin has been characterised by a creative freedom which can be seen in his ability in playing with the mannequins, deconstructing and creating new narratives, but also in the 21 black and white photographs in which his expressive power doesn t recede. It is also for Bourdin s love for cinema, that Giorgio Armani chose him for this exhibition: one section is dedicated to this great passion, alongside a selection of advertising campaign images portraying staged crime scenes and police chases. With this exhibition, prolonged until November 19th, Giorgio Armani stresses Guy Bourdin s outstanding "mark on the collective imagination”.
