The Princess of Wales often turns to go-to designer Catherine Walker and heirloom jewelry for formal occasions. So it’s no surprise, then, that the royal did exactly that as King Charles was presented with the Scottish crown jewels at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, marking his Coronation.

For the occasion, Kate—who is known as the Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland—rewore a cobalt-blue coat dress by the British designer, which she debuted at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March 2022, before bringing it back out again for the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in April. This time around, she teamed the blue coat—which was no doubt a nod to the Scottish flag—with a new sculptural hat by Philip Treacy, along with a matching clutch bag and pumps.

When it came to her jewellery, the princess opted for Queen Elizabeth II’s four-row pearl and diamond choker necklace, in a fitting tribute to the late monarch. Kate first wore the poignant piece at Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021 and again at the Queen’s funeral in September 2023. Finishing off her look, the royal added Princess Diana’s Collingwood pearl earrings, which the then Princess of Wales wore as part of her going away outfit, following her wedding to Charles in 1981.

Ever conscious of the power of her wardrobe choices, Kate has worn a number of pieces paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II since her death in September, including the late monarch’s famous three-strand pearl necklace. Meanwhile, the princess is increasingly sending out a message on the importance of sustainable fashion by repeating her pieces on a more regular basis, as she settles into her role as queen-in-waiting.
