Queer Love Was on Full Display During New York’s Pride Celebrations

Pride Month has always been multifaceted, combining aspects of protest and celebration (often in the same event, as at this year’s Dyke March, when a permit-free rally for police abolition and other progressive issues turned into a dance party at the Washington Square Park fountain). What often gets lost in mainstream reporting on Pride, though, is how it gives ordinary LGBTQ+ partners a chance to express their love for one another, free of the typical societal judgment that so often rears its ugly head when nonnormative couples demonstrate affection in public. To that end, photographer Mayan Toledano spent last weekend capturing moments of intimacy between partners at New York’s various Pride celebrations. See the stunning photos below:
