If you’ve exhausted all the obvious parameters—comfort, affordability, size—maybe try something out of the box and look to your zodiac sign to guide the way. Seriously! I turned to Madi Murphy, the founder of The Cosmic RX and a professional astrologer, to find out how your sun and rising signs can help you navigate shopping as well.
“Astrology is one of the greatest tools to express who you are,” she said. “The highest octave of fashion is your personal style reflecting your inner passion and purpose.” We agree completely. Below, four on-trend spring shoes for each sign based on Murphy’s advice. Her hot tip before starting? “If you want to push things to the limit, also take your rising sign into consideration. You don’t always see yourself as that, but the rest of the world does.”
Aries
“Aries is not wallflower energy,” Murphy says. “But they also have a sporty edge.” In an eye-catching boot or sneaker, this fire sign will be able to dance the night away. Pair with something flirty or sexy for maximum effect.
Taurus
“Taurus archetype is the builder, the guardian, but also the pleasure seeker,” says Murphy. “Taurus wants to be connected to the five senses and the richness of life.” A textural shoe—something frilly, feathery, or floral—fits the bill.
Gemini
No height, color, or shape is too daunting for Geminis. “They’re always with a finger on the pulse of a trend,” Murphy says. “They want to connect to others, so they want that reaction of, ‘oh I’ve never seen this before, but I want that.’” In other words, go wild!
Cancer
“Even if they’re not a self-described hippie-chic person, they’re usually drawn to one or two elements of that,” Murphy says. Channel that “earth mermaid energy” into some beauty flats. “Every Cancer I know is drawn to things that are opalescent,” Murphy says. Something to keep in mind.
Leo
Leos are here to make an impression, from head to toe. “Leo is represented as being the performer, the one who wants to be on center stage,” Murphy says. “Anything that’s bright, taking up space, that has a flair for the dramatic.” Whether you’re gravitating towards a furry hot pink slipper or a lace-up white gogo boot, go big or go home, dear Leos.
Virgo
For Virgos, the name of the game is subtle, luxurious sexiness. “Everyone thinks Virgo is virginal and pure, but that’s just when they’re getting work done,” Murphy says. “They’re much more playful when they feel safe.” Channel both energies with a barely-there kitten heel.
Libra
Like Taurus, Libra is ruled by Venus, making them lovers of luxury. “Libra is a sign of beauty and balance,” Murphy says. “Libra does love a designer name. They want a little recognition.” The good thing about these logo-ed shoes is that they’ll never go out of style.
Scorpio
You vixen, you! One of the sexiest signs, Scorpios love things that are a bit edgy and mysterious as well. Plus, “they’re all about rebirth. They love things with a little soul to it,” Murphy says. A vintage statement shoe will fit quite nicely.
Sagittarius
The world traveler, Sagittariuses, love freedom and adventure, as well as artisan craftsmanship. “Anything that is international and hard to get, they’ll be drawn to,” Murphy says. “A Sagittarius is like ‘oh this company is really big in Austria.’” We may not be able to jet set, but you can still bring that energy home with a wanderlust-inducing shoe.
Capricorn
“Capricorns just thrive in the realm of pragmatism but definitely love luxury,” Murphy says. “They do not go for trends. They’re timeless.” Since they’re also the leaders of the zodiac, maybe try a killer pair of boots that clearly say that you mean business.
Aquarius
One of our favorite style renegades, Harry Styles, has a chart “chock full of Aquarius,” according to Murphy. And his style is true for the archetype of the sign: “They’ll play with everything.” Try a chunky play of the loafer, maybe with a Tabi toe or a massive buckle.
Pisces
“The dreamers,” Murphy says. “Anything that feels romantic, soft, even a little childish they’re drawn to. They’re tapped into that inner child.” They also aren’t afraid of color. Make a beeline towards ballet flats and mary janes in a range of pastel colors. Perfect for spring, too!
