Troye Sivan is giving the pop divas a serious run for their money in his new music video, “One Of Your Girls.”
Over the past couple days, the Australian singer tantalized fans on social media, posting a clip of the video featuring a shirtless Ross Lynch (of Disney Channel fame) giving his best Abercrombie model impression, and close-ups of an unknown woman. Only—surprise!—the woman was Sivan himself in full, magnificent drag.
Earlier this week, Sivan posted a snippet on TikTok, calling it his favorite song on the album, writing: “Shout out to the str8-ish boys who this song is about (you know who you are).” And, thus, he did indeed turn himself into one of the girls. As it seems that music videos are fewer and far between, Sivan gave a compelling visual representation of pining for straight—or straightish—men.
With that, he gave us some excellent fashion, too. Styled by Interview fashion director Dara Allen, Sivan draws to mind early aughts Britney Spears (an effort certainly aided by his Britney-esque choreography). Allen confirmed the reference with an Instagram shout out to Spears’s collaborators, costume designers Kurt and Bart, thanking them “for the endless inspiration and profound influence over all i do. incredibly excited to finally do a true and shameless homage.”
Sivan’s drag persona wore multiple lingerie looks throughout the video. In his inaugural drag scene—somewhat reminiscent of Spears’s 2003 VMAs performance—he dons a Cou Cou Intimates white slip dress and thigh-high green and white striped boots from Isa Boulder, along with white lace arm warmers from Fanci Club. For another scene, where he dances at a barre, Sivan wears a custom black net dress with black arm warmers. Flanked by two dancers in black minidresses from Wolford and Mirror Palais, the black-and-white scene draws to mind Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” trio.
He also wore multiple luxury pieces. In one black-and-white scene, he lounged in a mid-length, slinky black Versace dress with knee-high lace-up Gianvito Rossi stilettos. For a shoulders-up shot, he wore a white faux fur jacket from Michael Kors. And, perhaps the most Pop Diva look of them all, Sivan dove into the archives in an angelic white Tom Ford-era Gucci top, with an exposed black Victoria’s Secret bra, a single Aniyer Records arm warmer (are we sensing a theme?) with dangling ribbons, a pair of custom bootcut jeans, and an oversized black studded belt from R M Leathers.
Between his runway stint for Miu Miu and now his fashion-forward music video, it’s clear that Troye Sivan knows he’s a strong contender for the most exciting Pop Girl of the moment. As he sings on the track, “Face card, no cash, no credit,” and he’s taking that straight to the bank.
