Creativity requires at least two things: stimulation and the time to think. While designers these days may not get much of the latter, they do have plans to let their minds wander, whether by sea, land, or simply imagination. Here’s where they’re hoping to find inspiration in 2013.
“Decorating our new office! Having a truly inspirational place from which to work and create.”
“I am particularly excited about the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s tribute to the punk movement next May [“Punk: Chaos to Couture”].”
“Spending time in Orient, New York, on the North Fork of Long Island with our family this summer.”
“Seeing the ‘Picasso Black and White’ exhibit at the Guggenheim, but I’m truly looking forward to editing down my life, simplifying to focus on what’s important.”
“I am planning a trip to Bhutan. I have always wanted to go there. I’m fascinated by the traditional way of life there and think it would be a beautiful place to explore.”
“Introducing my first resort collection.”
“Traveling! Especially my first visit to Canada where I will be visiting Vancouver, and then New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing—just in the first few months. Busy but exciting!”
“My resolution, and something I’m really excited about this year, is finding the balance.”
“Running more, spending more time with friends, the 49ers at the Super Bowl, planting a vegetable garden, Breaking Bad and going somewhere I’ve never been.”
“Doing a lot of landscaping and planting upstate. It’s a newfound obsession. I spend every weekend at the nursery for hours, so I’m kind of going through withdrawal at the moment.”
“This July, I am looking forward to a friend’s invitation to sail the Mediterranean on his boat. My partner Thomas and I will spend two weeks at sea visiting different ports, Ischia being top of the list.”
“Seeing the James Turrell exhibit at the Guggenheim. It’s his first exhibit in a New York City museum in a long time. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do to the rotunda—what an iconic and perfect space for a Turrell installation! I have a feeling it will be very dramatic.”
