Over the weekend, Dolce Gabbana and Mytheresa organized a catwalk event to present their seventh collection together, with the sea on one side and Portofino’s famously colorful buildings on the other. The iconic location is in fact the protagonist of the collection; across its many looks and accessories the flower-framed postcard is the main reference point, alternating with awning stripe motifs.
Portofino is home (one of many) for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Here in their David Chipperfield–refurbished villa, Kourtney Kardashian was married a year ago, wearing Dolce Gabbana Alta Moda, naturally. “Portofino is a place we love dearly and feel emotionally tied to. It’s a classic summer destination in our bel paese, encompassing a very Italian imagery that we have always explored and identified with,” the designers said. “With our work we try to tell and transfer this heritage, especially onto the new generations.”
MyTheresa’s Tiffany Hsu seconded the sentiments: “Italy is the best place, for a holiday, food, colors, and warmth. I don’t think there’s anything more summery than this culture. And we couldn’t have chosen a better brand to work on this idea, because Dolce Gabbana really is the essence of Italian-ness.”

The evening was made special by little surprises here and there, which were also enjoyed by the season’s first tourists. The pianist Davide Locatelli arranged an instrumental version of “Love in Portofino” (F. Buscaglione / L. Chiosso) for the occasion and models walked around a square flanked by guests sitting at tables dressed in white tablecloths, before boarding little boats. Afterward, typical Ligurian dishes were served alfresco by the restaurants overlooking the dock and there was a fireworks display.
The initiative confirms the strategic success of the partnership with Mytheresa, multi-brand company with headquarters in Monaco, among the first to invest in e-commerce (since 2006) with €747.3 million net sales in the fiscal year 2022. Especially with the most on target successful brands. “It’s important to offer something different, something that cannot be found elsewhere,” said Hsu of the festivities. “All our capsule collections have a history behind them and are launched in a specific moment, which corresponds to a particular lifestyle we want to tell the story of.”

The Dolce Gabbana x Mytheresa collection, which is already available to purchase online, includes brand classics like the bustier dress and the full skirt, together with more relaxed, summer holiday silhouettes including chemisier maxi dresses, sarong skirts, and balconette bra swimsuits. There’s also a focus on girlswear, with “mini me” matching mother-and-daughter dresses.
