Brush up on your French (and your murder mystery-solving) because we’re checking in to the Château de la Messardière for The White Lotus season four.
According to Variety, the new season of Mike White’s hit show will shoot at the 19th-century castle in the French Riviera, along with other properties in the area and a location in Paris. Named one of Vogue’s best hotels in the South of France, the Château is a five-star Airelles property that was originally built as a wedding gift from a wealthy cognac merchant to his daughter.
With its many acres and hilltop views of the Saint-Tropez Bay, Ramatuelle vineyards, and the beaches of Pampelonne, it has long been a popular jet-set destination. Today, the hotel boasts a collection of Rolls-Royce (with chauffeurs, of course) that take guests to explore the region, whether to town or to the beach club. There is also a lush tennis court, a large central swimming pool, and extensive gardens. Plenty of space for the chaos, intrigue, sex, and shenanigans fans can expect from the White Lotus guests and staff.
Though little is known about the plot of the new season, sources told Variety that it might involve the Cannes Film Festival. Casting-wise, AJ Michalka and Alexander Ludwig will appear in the new season, and we can only hope for the return of a familiar face from a previous season, as with Jennifer Coolidge in season two and Natasha Rothwell in season three.
Mike White has announced one change for the upcoming season. “For the fourth season,” he said in a video released by Max on April 6, “I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular.” And you can expect some change sonically too: the composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer will not return due to creative differences with White.
One thing is for sure, though: Not everyone will make it out alive. “There’s always room for more murders in the White Lotus hotels,” White noted.

Where was season one of The White Lotus filmed?
Kicking off the acclaimed franchise, The White Lotus season one was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawai’i in 2020; a time when Covid restrictions were airtight and most productions were completely shut down. (The cast quarantined at the property for the entire shoot, which took place from October to December.) Filming took place in and around the picturesque beachfront resort, with the show’s production designer refashioning interiors to reflect the narrative. In real life, the five-star property sits on 15 acres overlooking the otherworldly Wailea Coast and is home to three restaurants, 383 rooms, three pools, and a spa.

After garnering a steady fan base, The White Lotus released the first episode of season two to an audience of 7.6 million viewers. Backdrop? The paradise island of Sicily. White chose another Four Seasons property for his sophomore season: Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in the hilltop town of Taormina, overlooking the Ionian Sea with brooding Mount Etna in the distance. It’s housed in a former 14th-century convent and was converted into a hotel in the late 19th century. Now, visitors can relish luxuries such as a clifftop infinity pool, puzzle-like Italian gardens, and sea-view accommodations. And because this time around production wasn’t stilted by Covid restrictions, the cast and crew were able to explore the surrounding region, including baroque-influenced Noto, the seaside village of Cefalù, and even the vineyards of Mount Etna (we all remember that episode set at Planeta Wine).

Guests of The White Lotus Thailand can enjoy sprawling, panoramic views of the calm Gulf of Thailand framed by shady coconut palms and thatched roofs. Indeed, Four Seasons Koh Samui is a spectacular tropical setting for the third season of The White Lotus situated on a private peninsula. Each of the property’s secluded hillside villas features a pool and afternoons can be spent lounging around by the infinity pool or at the world-class spa.
Unlike previous seasons, however, which were filmed at a single location, The White Lotus’s Thailand escape also saw White head to a number of other properties across the country, including Anantara Mai Khao Phuket for the scenes set in the spa.
