The last few months have been busy for the Taylor-Joy-McRae twosome—actor Anya Taylor-Joy and her husband, the musician and actor Malcolm McRae, have been racking up the red carpet appearances, gala dinners, and other starry affairs together. The couple have long been secretive about how they met—and even when and where they got married—and continue to be considered about what they share about each other with press. Not that that means they’re too shy for Instagram selfies together with cutesy captions, however.
In March 2022, Taylor-Joy told British Vogue that McRae was “my hobby.” “He loved it because he’s the same. I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80-years-old and seven at the same time and it works really well,” she said.
So far, 2025 has been glitzy and gooey-eyed for the couple: they looked loved-up on the red carpet, stepping out in New York for a Tiffany Co. event and SNL 50, and this spring, they celebrated their three-year anniversary.

Malcolm McRae and Anya Taylor-Joy share a birthday
McRae was born in Alabama, growing up in the Birmingham area before he relocated to Los Angeles as an adult to pursue a career in music.
He and his wife share a birthday: McRae was born on April 16, 1994, and Taylor-Joy was born exactly two years later. (This makes them both Aries: passionate, fiery, and deep on the astrological compatibility scale.) “16.04.94 ♾ 16.04.96. Happy birthday to us baby. Thank you all for your love,” Taylor-Joy wrote in a celebratory IG post in April 2022.
He’s in a band called more*
McRae is one of the two members of more*; he sings and plays both guitar and piano alongside fellow bandmate Kane Ritchotte. The duo first met in LA, and wrote together for a few years before they released their first EP, 1/2, in 2020. Their second EP, 2/2, dropped in September 2021. The band is signed to Warner Records and has opened for Haim and Grouplove.
“I’m more invested in pushing the boundaries of identity in the songs I am writing, and I try to write from the perspective of a character and adopt that character’s voice when I’m laying down the vocals for the recording,” McRae told Man About Town magazine in 2023. “At the moment, I think it’s really interesting to try and be someone I’m not when I’m singing. I feel more comfortable being that way, because in day-to-day life I can only be Malcolm.”
McRae and Ritchotte acted as music coaches for the cast of the TV adaptation of Daisy Jones The Six, and also made a cameo in the show playing a fictional band called The Winters.
In April 2025, the band shared brief clips from some new tracks.
And he wrote a song for Taylor-Joy two days after meeting her
“I wrote this song for Anya two days after meeting her. It’s called ‘Really Want to See You Again,’” McRae shared on Instagram back in March 2022.

He’s venturing more into acting
Since his aforementioned cameo on the Riley Keogh-starring Daisy Jones The Six, McRae has continued to pursue acting gigs. In December 2023, he shared that he had wrapped filming on his first feature film: The horror fantasy Triton, directed by Janell Shirtcliff and also starring Freya Allan, Josh Whitehouse, Elsie Hewitt, and Raff Law. It is set for release this year.
McRae and Taylor-Joy can be quite mysterious about their relationship
The couple made their first public appearance together in March 2022, at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. They kept it gothic—Taylor-Joy wore a sheer black Dior dress with a tulle bustier and McRae wore a black suit, sans tie.
In her 2022 British Vogue cover story, Taylor-Joy shared the difficulties of being in a long-distance relationship. (Taylor-Joy owned a home in east London while McRae was in LA.) “Yes, it is [hard], but it’s also kind of great because when you’re together you’re really valuing the time that you have,” she said.
The duo were never going to keep things too casual, either. “I was not a good dater and I’m quite glad to not be,” Taylor-Joy said. “I hear stories from my friends and I’m like, ‘God, I would suck at that.’”
During a red carpet appearance promoting Taylor-Joy’s film The Northman in April 2022, the couple shared a kiss on the red carpet—a first moment of serious PDA. They next paired up on the red carpet for the 2023 Golden Globes, when Taylor-Joy was nominated for best actress for her part in The Menu.
McRae and Taylor-Joy secretly wed in New Orleans in April 2022, and about a year and a half later, they tied the knot again in Venice, Italy. It was only in April 2024, though, that McRae and Taylor-Joy would share their wedding photos on social media.
On a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, The Gorge actor shared how she and McRae got together.
“I love him so much. I’m very, very lucky,” Taylor-Joy told Barrymore. The first time they really met was in a music studio, and the connection was instant. “He asked me, ‘When’s your birthday?’ and when I answered, he simply said, ‘I knew it.’”

McRae is a self-styled “cat daddy.” Taylor-Joy also told the TODAY show that their cat, Kitsune, has her husband “wrapped around his little paw.”
