While Cyrus’s boyfriend and Oscars companion, Liily drummer Maxx Morando, may not be a regular on the awards show circuit, he’s been with Cyrus for four years. Below, find everything you need to know about Morando before he and Cyrus’s next red-carpet showing—although now that they’ve faced down the Oscars together, aka “Hollywood prom,” how can they possibly top that?
He and Cyrus met in 2021.
Cyrus and Morando met on a blind date in 2021, stepped out together two years later for a Versace show in Los Angeles, and moved in together in Malibu in 2024. “Well, it was blind for me and not really for him,” Cyrus told British Vogue in 2023.
He has an impressive music-industry résumé.
Before joining Liily, Morando played drums for indie rock band the Regrettes from 2015 to 2018, which means he likely has the industry savvy necessary to keep up with Cyrus’s top-flight music career.
He’s collaborated professionally with Cyrus before.
Cyrus invited Morando and Liily to perform on her New Year’s Eve special on NBC in 2022, with a source saying at the time: “Miley insisted that Maxx’s band perform at her NYE special, and this was not something up for debate. Music is what bonds them together and they love nothing more than creating beautiful sounds when it is just the two of them.” Additionally, Morando and Cyrus worked together on the songs “Handstand” and “Violet Chemistry” from her 2023 album, Endless Summer Vacation.
