From the Issue: Uptown Punk
One of our more dazzling September Issue fashion stories was entitled “Glamourous Rebellion.” Photographed by Theo Lui and styled by fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the dizzying fun shoot takes place in and around Tokyo’s most energized neighborhoods, from Shibuya to Taitō. The fashion message? Punk with a Tokyo twist. A bold use of pattern (Erdem’s moody florals) with a bit of edge (Marc Jacobs’ sky-high platform creeper boots) and a dash of local flavor (Japanese designers like Noir Kei Ninomiya, Junya Watanabe). Actor and muse Devon Aoki is the lead of this story with an ensemble cast including model Kiko Mizuhara, model Lala Takahashi, model Ai Tominaga, actor Hikari Mori, rapper Ryugo Ishida, rapper NENE. Plus, several of the city’s most creative forces: Mei Kogo, Makoto Azuma, Torayuki Yamada, Xiaqua, Kou U, ViDA, Masaya Otsuka, Kien, Nanami, Aran, Who28, and Koinu.
