And the Bride Wore . . . Amal Clooney, Kim Kardashian West, Solange, and the Best Wedding Looks of 2014
Gone are the days of taffeta and mile-long trains. Today’s brides are more fashion-focused, reworking ready to wear for their special day. From grand designs in lace, to fun touches in tulle, all of these newlyweds made us say yes to the dress in 2014.

Amal Clooney
Just as eagerly anticipated as a certain duchess’s dress, Amal Clooney’s frothy and ethereal creation by legendary designer Oscar de la Renta perfectly captured the ethos of the bride: sophisticated, feminine, and with just a hint of Old Hollywood splendor.

Angelina Jolie
It was the walk down the aisle we never expected to see. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had been together for almost a decade—they fell in love on the set of 2005 s Mr. Mrs. Smith—and brought up six kids together. But Pitt and Jolie took the world by surprise when they finally tied the knot in a decidedly low-key ceremony this summer in France. And the dress was just as distinctive as the bride herself—her Atelier Versace creation was customized with drawings and doodles from the Jolie-Pitt clan.

Kim Kardashian West
We got to see the fittings on Keeping up with the Kardashians, but the final product, a majestic Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci lace creation for the new Mrs. West, solidified her sartorial standing as she wed Kanye, and ushered in a return to intricate, yet demure bridal style.

Olivia Palermo
Another unexpected wedding, when Olivia Palermo said I do to longtime beau Johannes Huebl, culminated in an intimate affair with family and close friends. But the real surprise was the beautiful lo-fi bridal ensemble by Carolina Herrera. The three-piece look, consisting of a cream cashmere sweater with feather accents at the hem, fell softly over silk faille shorts with a tulle skirt overlay with a satin band. A diamond brooch elegantly placed on the back of the skirt at the waistband provided a touch of sparkle.

Poppy Delevingne:
She wore a custom Chanel dress for her English wedding to James Cook (her dress was a modified version of a couture look sported by Blake Lively at a film premiere), but it was the fanciful confection created by Peter Dundas for the couple’s second ceremony in Marrakech that had everyone talking. Echoing the floral backdrop and color palette of the surroundings, Delevingne’s dress redefined the romantic bohemian bride.
