Last night, Farfetch hosted a burlesque-themed bash to celebrate Caroline Vreeland’s new lingerie collection for Kiki de Montparnasse, held at The Box in New York City. Shortly before Vreeland—a singer-actor-model, who is the great-granddaughter of legendary editor Diana Vreeland—took the stage to perform a set of five songs, Vogue spoke to the star of the night in her boudoir-like green room, where she slipped into her sequined Montparnasse gown. She admits she’s come a long way since her last time at the venue, when she got kicked out of the club: “I picked a fight with the bartender,” Vreeland said. “It’s a redemption tale.”
Vreeland spoke of the creative process of designing lingerie, a first for her. The idea for her designs came about while writing her upcoming album, Notes on Sex and Wine, which she penned while in an unhappy relationship. “I was in a new place, a new city, getting drunk alone in my underwear,” Vreeland said. “Sex should be for yourself, and you should feel sexy for yourself, but my experience was I always wanted him to come home and see me as cozy but sexy.” The result for her capsule for Montparnasse resulted in such pieces that fit the description, including an assortment of ruffled, sheer bloomers, and playful thongs.
Meanwhile, as Vreeland got glam, guests upstairs such as Brother Vellies’s Aurora James, photographer Ellen von Unwerth, Maxwell Osborne, Tina Leung, Myles O’Neal, and more mingled around the open bar as they awaited her performance. They sipped on two special cocktails for the night: “Hot and Heavy” with tequila, triple sec, and red pepper flakes, and “Down and Dirty” with gin, dry vermouth, and olives. Upstairs, tattoo artist Evan Kim from Evan Tattoo inked daring guests with free designs of their choice.
Around 9 p.m., Vreeland appeared onstage, opening with a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang,” following it up with some of her own songs, including her brand-new single, “Stay Drunk With Me.” And while nobody in the crowd went for a lingerie look, the dancers swinging from the ceiling added a dash of cabaret flair to the whimsical, alluring evening.
