Inside Jordana Brewster and Mason Morfit’s Wedding at a Villa in Montecito
Actress Jordana Brewster and ValueAct Capital CEO Mason Morfit were introduced by mutual friend Max Boyer in 2020. “There were about fifteen people at a lunch in Park City, and we never said a word to each other,” Jordana recalls. “We then started following each other on Instagram. I thought he was very witty and charming, and we discovered that we had very similar upbringings. After we were both divorced, I flew to San Francisco during the pandemic to see him, and that was it.”
In 2021, the two got engaged on their favorite beach in Montecito. Soon after, they began planning the wedding for September 3rd at Villa Sevillano in Carpinteria, California. “We chose Montecito [for our wedding location] because we live there for part of the year,” Jordana explains. “We go every week to read, recharge, and relax.”
When it comes to planning, Jordana was very hands on. “I wanted to personalize the details in the invitation, and I became obsessed with small things like getting the flowers by Poppy Design Co. just right,” the bride says. “I am more right-brained and can have a super big vision without the ability to execute that vision so Mason suggested we have a weekly call with Beth Helmstetter and her event team at Beth Helmstetter Events. They helped keep everyone on track and also kept my anxiety in check.”
Jordana’s dress search turned into a dream scenario when her friend interior designer Chiara de Rege connected her with Wes Gordon at Carolina Herrera. “I initially thought I wanted a large, very traditional dress, but when I started to try them on, they didn’t feel right,” Jordana says. “I’m in my forties, and this is my second wedding, and a lot of them felt very young. My stylist Kate Bofshever helped me though, and the third dress I tried on was the right one–it was perfect.”
The actress has been working for the same hair and makeup team for her red carpet appearances for years, so it was only natural that she turned to Emily Cheng and Kylee Heath again on her wedding day. “They know me really well, and we have a ton of fun together,” she says. “I sent them a bunch of inspiration pictures. I kept googling ‘low bun, wedding’ until I found Hailey Bieber and thought to myself: ‘Bingo!’”
Mason, meanwhile, looked dapper in a navy blue Tom Ford tuxedo that the couple bought in London while Jordana was filming Fast X. In lieu of a traditional wedding party, the couple’s parents and children all walked down the aisle. “My sons Julian and Rowan escorted me down the aisle,” Jordana says. “They really wanted to hold my veil, but I kept saying ‘no no no, we are walking into this together, as a team.’ The symbolism of that meant a lot to me."
Jordana and Mason asked Beth to create a circular layout so that they could be surrounded by their family and friends throughout the ceremony, and the couple’s therapist Kasey Crown officiated. “She knows us so well, and we knew she would bring the right amount of intention to the ceremony,” Jordana explains. “She also helped Mason and I navigate tricky issues such as joining our families in a thoughtful, sensitive way.” The “hero” moment of the ceremony may have been when the bride’s best friend Max Boyer Glynn pulled a bee out of her veil with her bare hands just as the ceremony began. “No one got stung,” Jordana admits. “A good omen!”
As the bride walked down the aisle with her sons, Mason’s friend and former band mate Jaime Goodyear sang Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over.” “The lyrics describe our situation in a really beautiful, perfect way,” Jordana notes. “I felt calm and centered throughout the ceremony. I made sure to lock eyes with Mason the entire time I walked down the aisle. I’ve rushed through a lot of important milestones in my life, and at 42, I wanted to slow down and enjoy marrying the love of my life.”
After the ceremony, family portraits were taken—including driveway photos of Jordana and Mason with her character Mia Toretto’s Acura from The Fast and Furious. “It was fun to pay homage to that part of my life,” Jordana says. “A lot of work went into it! Sung Kang pulled some big favors and had the car built with two weeks notice before the wedding!”
Once photos had been taken, it was time for the first dance. The couple worked with the bride s former burlesque dance teacher, Danah Jane Matthews, to prep for this moment. “The goal was for it to be intimate and not too performative,” she says. “There was something so romantic about the whole process–I loved it!”
Finally, for the after-party, Jordana wanted to have some fun with her look, so she changed into a Paco Rabanne mini that reminded her of carnival in Brazil. “I’m usually in bed by 9:00 p.m., but we danced until 1:00 a.m.,” the bride says of how the night ended. “It felt like a reunion of all of my most loved, favorite people gathered to witness the most important day of my life.”
1/64For our rehearsal dinner, we wanted a communal vibe. Our home in Montecito has a beautiful oak tree at its heart and so Beth Helmstetter, our wedding planner designed long tables surrounding the tree.
2/64The wooden bar was set in front of our home. We offered a “Caipiroska” and a “Naked and Famous.” The former was a nod to my Brazilian heritage and the latter was an inside joke.
